Grammy nominated band Skillet to perform in Frisco

Apr. 15, 2018

Skillet, a two-time Grammy nominated hard rock band is scheduled to perform at the Frisco Dr. Pepper Arena April 22. The band has gained a huge following over the years that they have been performing, both for their catchy melodies and lyrics of both a positive and hopeful nature. With John Cooper as lead vocalist and bassist, his wife Korey Cooper on guitar and keys, Seth Morrison on lead guitar and Jen Ledger on drums and backup vocals, this group has amazing energy every time they take the stage.

The band has been on tour with many other Christian artists the past few months with the annual concert event, Winter Jam, and as this tour comes to a close, the band will continue to tour with multiple types of artists.

As we anticipate the North Texas concert, the following interview with John Cooper, Skillet’s lead singer, will provide more insight into the band:

The Garland Texan: From your newest album, Unleashed, which song do you feel is the best one you released and why?

Cooper: “Well let’s see, the first track, Feel Invincible is probably the most known and probably the best, because it’s the one the crowd really knows. Also, it’s something that sounds like what you would sing in an arena, kind of like a fight song. That’s what I really like about it along with the various tempos.”

The Garland Texan: With all the traveling and touring Skillet has been doing recently, and with even more events coming up, how do you as band members reenergize yourselves for the next thing?

Cooper: “I think that it is probably due to the fact that we love the band and love performing. That is my favorite part of my job. I like writing and being in the studio but performing is where it’s really fun for me. To see the fans sing the songs and to see a song impact someone in the crowd is inspiring and cool. That’s kind of what gets me going, along with being in an experience with the crowd.”

The Garland Texan: What has been one of the biggest difficulties as a band to overcome and how did you get through it?

Cooper: “I think it was initially getting our music out. We were kind of underground, very heavy, and in the Christian market alone at the time. Finding a way to get our music on the radio was difficult. It took us a long time to get signed by Atlantic. That was the hugest piece of the puzzle because then all of a sudden we were distributed and had radio play.”

The Garland Texan: What is your favorite song to play live?

Cooper: “Monster is probably the most fun to play because it’s the biggest song that everybody knows. It’s probably not my favorite Skillet song, but it’s the most fun to play live because of that.”

The Garland Texan: What is your favorite thing to do while you’re in Texas?

Cooper: “We are always so busy, I hardly ever do anything special, but Texas is my favorite state and I don’t know why I like it so much. There are some cities I really love, like San Antonio and getting to go on the river walk and getting some Tex-Mex. Dr. Pepper is my favorite drink and since its from Texas that makes me really happy.”

Skillet will perform at Frisco’s Dr. Pepper Arena Sunday, April 22, at 7 p.m. along with For King and Country and Ledger (Jen Ledger of Skillet). Don’t miss it! Click here to purchase tickets.
