GSM opens season with “Mamma Mia!”

On June 14, Garland Summer Musicals will open its 37th season with “Mamma Mia!” followed by the stage and film spectacular Seven Brides for Seven Brothers scheduled for July 19-21 and July 26-28  

 

“Mamma Mia!” – the smash hit musical based on the songs of legendary pop group ABBA follows the story of Sophie, a young bride-to-be who schemes to find her biological father so he can walk her down the aisle during the upcoming wedding. Will she find her father among three candidates from her mother’s past? Find out in “Mamma Mia!”

 

Michael Serrecchia will direct “Mamma Mia!” and Mark Mullino is the music director. Patty Granville is the producer. Megan Kelly Bates is the choreographer. Production staff includes: Set design by Rodney Dobbs; lighting design by Scott Guenther; sound design by Tyler Payne; props design by Dayna Fries; stage manager is Rachel DuPree; technical director is Timothy Doyle; master carpenter is Joe Murdock; ASM is Mason Bunkelman and assistant tech director is Race Wells.

 

The show will feature: Cara Statham Serber as Donna; Claire DeJean as Sophie; Megan Kelly Bates as Rosie; Susan Metzger as Tanya; Pete Puckett as Harry; Greg Hullett as Sam; David Noel as Bill; Kietraille Sutton as Sky; McKenzie Reece as Lisa; Alejandra Bigio as Ali and Andrew Nicolas as the Priest.

 

The ensemble includes: Nancy Pistilli; Caren Sharpe-Herbst; Alison Leigh; Austin Hines; Toby Burris; Gena Loe; Taylor Summers; Sarah Boone; Reagan Rees; Annie Cahill; Chanie Thomas; Nathan May; Caleb Frank; Ryan Douglass; Lance McDougall; Caleb Barnett; Nate Frederickson; Ryan Ramirez; Jake Harris; Luis Salazar; Alvaro Carranza; Adam Henley; Kevin Davis, Jr. and Katie Krasovec.

 

Special college credit in the form of scholarships is available through Eastfield College for the cast and crew.

 

Performances are held in the Brownlee Auditorium of the Granville Arts Center, 300 North Fifth Street in downtown Garland. Shows are Fridays, June 14 and June 21 at 8 p.m., Saturdays, June 15 and June 22 at 8 p.m. and Sundays June 16 and June 23 at 2:30 p.m. at the Granville Arts Center.

About GSM: Since 1983, Garland Summer Musicals has provided entertainment and educational opportunities to North Texas with annual summer musical productions. GSM encourages professional artists, through Guest Artist contracts with Actor’s Equity, to work with aspiring performers of all ages, creating a diverse theatre training and semi-professional production company. College credit in the form of scholarships is available through Eastfield College for cast and crew. GSM produces two musical classics each summer, bringing Broadway blockbuster entertainment to over 6,500 patrons each season.
