GSO Holiday of Color concert

Dec. 4, 2018

The Garland Symphony Orchestra continues its 2018-2019 Symphonic Kaleidoscope season Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Granville Arts Center.

The holiday concert is a perennial family favorite. Continuing our color-inspired season, the program will feature holiday classics like “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Silver Bells,” and Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas.” In addition, the GSO will be performing Vaughan Williams’ “Fantasia on Greensleeves,” a beautiful standard in the orchestral repertoire. The program includes the ever-popular Holiday Sing-a-long and more!

The concert guest soloist is Minnesota native and Plano resident, soprano Sara Gartland. She earned raves as Jenufa in Jenufa with the Des Moines Metro Opera. Gartland has also sung the title role in Rusalka with Arizona Opera and Roselinde in Die Fledermaus with Utah Opera, as well as covered the role of Adalgisa in Norma with The Dallas Opera. She has made appearances with the Austin Lyric Opera, Opera Omaha, San Diego Opera, San Jose Opera and Utah Opera.

On the concert stage, Gartland has sung Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Elmhurst Symphony, Carmina Burana with the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra and debuted the song cycle Four Hardy Songs by Pablo Ortiz with UC Davis Symphony Orchestra.

Garland Symphony Orchestra credits its music director, Robert Carter Austin, for its continued outstanding and diverse orchestral programming.
