Guns & Hoses of North Texas recently hosted a dinner at Primo’s Mexican Bar and Grille. The dinner was for the firefighters and police officers that will participate in the 21st Guns and Hoses Boxing Tournament.

The tournament is Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center at 200 East Stacy Road in Allen. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. There will be over 20 matches, and three Garland police officers will be boxing.

Visits with boxers from Little Elm, Princeton and The Colony fire departments, as well as the Collin College, Arlington and Garland police departments, revealed that the great cause is their priority. In addition, they agree that raising money for the families of fallen first responders is the most important thing.guns

Participating officers from the Garland PD:

Quinlin Caltabiano said that the cause is a great one because it helps the families that are affected by what police officers and firefighters are asked to do every day. Those individuals made the ultimate sacrifice in doing that job.

“I can’t see a downside to it,” he said. “It’s fun, and it’s for a good cause.”

Keylon Mayers has been with the GPD for four years, and it’s his first time to box in the tournament. He went to last year’s tournament and decided that he wanted to fight the next year.

“It’s extremely important to raise money for families of fallen officers. I’m just happy to be a part of it,” he said.

Johnathan Fragoso of the Garland PD will participate for the first time this year. He said that it’s important to raise money and help the families of fallen first responders.

“It’s just fun, and it’s a good cause,” he said. “That’s why I wanted to do this – you can train and fight and it’s for a good cause.”
