Habitat schedules Women Build Week

May. 9, 2016

Garland Area Habitat for Humanity hosted its National Women Build Week Saturday, April 30, with 46 volunteers from Lowe’s of Mesquite, Marlow Corp. and First Christian Church of Garland’s Disciples Women group. District 2 City Councilwoman Anita Goebel was the official photographer and celebrity builder this year.

Volunteers helped complete the interior and exterior painting on Garland Habitat’s home on Nona Street. Just for fun all volunteers were invited to decorate a hard hat and enter it in a contest. Our pwomenartner family Mr. and Mrs. Shu served as contest judges. First and second winners received a Lowe’s bucket filled with candy, and a nail apron full of goodies respectively.

We were thrilled to have so much support this year and the partner family was amazed at how much work was completed. GAHFH sends gratitude to National Partner Lowe’s for helping build awareness and participation from women all acwomenross the country.

The program recruits, educates and inspires women to build-and advocate for simple, decent and affordable houses in their communities. Since the Women Build Program was created in 1998, more than 2,500 Habitat for Humanity Women Build houses have been constructed in partnership with low-income families.
