Garland ISD announced that Handley Elementary School will be closed from Nov. 20-Dec. 4, with all students and staff learning and working remotely. The campus will reopen for face-to-face learning Dec. 7.
The district’s priority is student and staff safety and administrators have worked closely with the Garland Health Department to monitor the spread of COVID-19. The health department issued a 14-day closure order for Handley ES due to the number of unconnected cases of COVID-19 on campus.
Unconnected COVID-19 cases means that the lab-confirmed cases do not appear to be connected to one another, and there may be people without symptoms who are unknowingly spreading the illness within the building.
The district thanks families for their patience, understanding and flexibility.
