Health providers concerned about delayed screenings

Jun. 29, 2020

Critical health screenings, like mammograms, have plummeted to a decline of as much as 94% during the peak of COVID-19.

Healthcare providers, like Solis Mammography, have reopened their doors with a safety-first approach and a dependence on long-standing community trust to encourage women to get screened for breast cancer.

“Mammograms save lives and are always essential. It is our goal to give women a safe haven for breast care, in an environment that observes strict safety procedures,” said Grant Davies, president and chief executive officer of Solis Mammography.

Delays in breast cancer screenings and other health checks, even temporarily, may carry long-term negative effects.

“Early detection is our best defense. At the height of the pandemic, it was right to stay home, but it is now time to reprioritize your annual screenings,” says Alexander Sardiña, MD, chief medical officer for Solis Mammography. “Breast cancer, when detected early, can be highly curable.”

For women who are high risk or who have a history of breast cancer, regular mammograms are a priority.

“Cancers found at later stages typically require longer, more aggressive treatments,” said Sardiña. “Additionally, women who have had breast cancer are at a higher risk of recurrence. My recommendation is to talk to your provider about returning to an appropriate screening regimen.”

Making it safe for women to resume screenings and diagnostic procedures is the key to saving lives.

Solis Mammography has heightened safety precautions to include temperature checks on all team members and patients, vigorous and continuous cleaning after each patient and throughout the day, use of personal protective equipment, and strict social distancing. “During this critical period, we’ve made the patient experience as streamlined as possible to keep safety a top priority,” said Davies.

Solis Mammography has 29 mammography centers serving the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The full-service breast centers provide screening mammography, bone density screenings, and diagnostic breast services such as diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds and biopsies.
