Help GFD, GFFA make holiday special

Dec. 14, 2021

Make this holiday special for a child in need. The Garland Fire Fighters Association (GFFA) and Garland Fire Department are collecting new, unwrapped toys for their annual toy drive through Monday, Dec. 20.

Toy collection boxes will be available at each of Garland’s 11 fire stations and at the Fire Administration and Training Facility, 1500 State Highway 66.

Garland firefighters will deliver the toys to local children in time for the holidays.

About GFFA: On Jan. 18, 1948, the Garland Fire Fighters Association was chartered as a Local of the International Association of Fire Fighters. For more than 60 years, the GFFA has been Local #1293.

The Garland Fire Fighters Association’s primary purpose is advocating for its members, ensuring safe working conditions, appropriate equipment, and wages and benefits consistent with other firefighters in the area. The GFFA accomplishes this task by working with Fire Administration and City Staff and by being politically active.

The Garland Fire Fighters Association is committed to being a part of the community we work in. Through our charities, we provide support to those in the community in need. Each year the GFFA hosts a Shopping Spree, providing an opportunity for kids in need to shop for Christmas for themselves and their family. Our annual toy drive provides toys for hundreds of Garland children each year. Garland Little League, multiple schools, Sons of the Flag and many more are GFFA charities beneficiaries.

The GFFA works with other local associations in Texas and across the nation to provide safe working conditions for firefighters.

Providing Christmas Toys for Children of Low-Income Families

The economic pressures of COVID-19 will force even more parents to choose between paying rent or buying Christmas presents. You can help us make sure the children of these families have something to open this Christmas.

When you drop off a new, unwrapped toy at a Garland Fire Station or at Garland Fire Department Administration, we will make sure they get to a child in need.
