Help Good Sam on North Texas Giving Day

Aug. 3, 2020

Since 1983, Good Samaritans of Garland, “Good Sam,” has provided food assistance for food-insecure families.  Due to the economic challenges of COVID19, Good Sam is experiencing an unprecedented demand for assistance.  In the past four months, Good Sam has provided food assistance for 9,000 families; a 300% increase over this time period in 2019.  With many agencies closed or services curtailed, The organization welcomes all families needing food, regardless of where they live.

Good Samaritan’s compassionate staff and volunteers continue to serve at their own risk during the pandemic and do so with kindness and without judgment.  They understand that many guests are experiencing difficult times for various challenges.  Unemployment, underemployment, eviction, medical emergencies, and caring for extended family members is the cause of great stress for many of our neighbors.

Good Sam is asking for your help.  With a high unemployment rate and economic relief unlikely in the near future, we will continue to see an increase in requests for food.  As a 501(c)3 non-profit, Good Sam depends on the generosity of our community to provide needed resources to help our neighbors.

“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” Helen Keller’s wise words mirror a Good Samaritan’s core value.

Together IS better and we humbly ask for your partnership in helping others!
