High school football: Week 2

Week 2 of non-district high school football ended with a win for the South Garland Titans and losses for the other teams.

South Garland HS 40 – Carrollton R.L. Turner 21

SGHS got a big win over R.L. Turner High School Thursday, Aug. 25. The Titans had 396 offensive yards on the night. Quarterback Mirko Martos ended the game at 10 for 19 with 181 yards and two passing scores. Jaden Holland and Rueben Harris caught the TD passes. Camron McNeil put together 125 rushing yards and made three touchdowns. Alvaro Gonzales also had a rushing TD.

McKinney North HS 38 – Garland HS 10

The Owls lost to McKinney North High School Thursday, Aug. 25. GHS scored in the third quarter on a short run by Keyuntae King. They also got a 38-yard field goal. Quarterback Jayden Norwood was 6-11 on the night for 105 yards.

Frisco Memorial HS 30 – Lakeview Centennial HS 28

The Rangers lost in a close battle Friday, Aug. 6. The Rangers’ quarterback, Johnathan Hester threw four TD passes and ended the night at 18-29 and 246 yards. Caylon Montgomery had six catches for 85 yards and two scores. Julius Spencer had seven catches for 147 yards and two TDs.

North Mesquite HS 45 – North Garland HS 32

The Raiders were defeated by North Mesquite High School Saturday, Aug. 27. The Raiders’ quarterback Godspower Nwawuihe passed for 178 yards and three TD and finished the game at 11-26. De’Corals Taylor, Mateo Howard and Kameron Shaw caught the TD passes. Taylor also had an 80-yard kickoff return for a TD. Jaden Davis carried the ball 29 times for 114 yards. The Raiders also added field goals in the second fourth quarters.

Lewisville HS 28 – Naaman Forest HS 6

The Rangers were defeated by Lewisville High School Friday, Aug. 26. Isaiah Wesley got the only Rangers’ score on a short run in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Deangelo Perales ended the night at 13-27 for 134 yards. Isaiah Cunning carried the ball 16 times for 121 yards.

Plano East HS 31 – Rowlett HS 27

The Eagles lost to Plano East HS in a close contest Friday, Aug. 26. RHS scored three times in the first half. Once on a 37-yard run and twice on passes from quarterback Harris Boyd to Corey Kirkling and James Okolo. Kirkling had nine catches for 141 yards. Okolo had six catches for 78 yards. Devonta Crow and Boyd added rushing TDs. Boyd ended the game at 17-37 with 227 yards.

Coppell HS 56 – Sachse HS 27

The Mustangs lost to Coppell HS on Thursday, Aug. 25. All the Mustangs scores came on rushing plays. Three were by R.C. Reeves and one by Pope Akanna. Reeves had 22 catches for 159 yards. Akanna put together 163 yards on 10 runs.

The entire offensive line received the superlative from the SHS coaches for 352 rushing yards and good pass protection. The award for skill went to Akanna and Reeves was the coaches’ pick for MVP.
