High school football: Week 8

Week eight of the high school football season ended with wins for the Naaman Forest Rangers, Rowlett Eagles, Sachse Mustangs and Wylie East Raiders.

Rangers defeat Titans

The Naaman Forest Rangers (4-3, 4-1) got a 47-7 win over the South Garland Titans (1-7, 0-6) Friday, Oct. 14. Quarterback Deangelo Perales connected with Jason Flores for two scores. Perales completed 14 of 19 pass attempts for 110 yards. Isaiah Cunning ran for 121 yards on the game and scored one TD. Taylor Green, Ivan Garcia, Kejuan Martin-Richard and Elijah Glover also scored rushing touchdowns.

The Titans’ score came on a pass from Mirko Martos to Jonas Brown.

Eagles get win over NG Raiders

Rowlett High School (2-6, 2-4) got a 27-26 victory over North Garland High School Friday, Oct. 14. GerMyius Benson scored two TDs on

runs and collected 119 yards on the game. James Okolo also scored on a pass from quarterback Andrew Ellison. Rowlett also got two field goals.

North Garland Raiders (3-4, 2-3) quarterback Godspower Nwawulhe connected with Javius Green for a touchdown. Nwawulhe also added a rushing score. Jaden Davis carried the ball 31 times and collected 163 yards. The Raiders also added a score on a fumble return and a 28-yard field goal.

Mustangs defeat Owls

Sachse High School (2-5, 2-3) got a 48-29 win over Garland High School (4-4, 3-3) Thursday, Oct. 13. SHS quarterback Brenden George ended the night at 12-17 for 178 yards and two touchdowns. Kaliq Lockett caught one of the TD passes and Santana Quinn caught the other. Pope Akanna, who rushed for 170 yards, got a rushing score and Brendon Haygood ran for two TDs. Grayson King also scored a rushing touchdown.

SHS coaches recognized Austin Smith, Zach Moore, Grayson King and Brenden George on offense. Pope Akanna was the Offensive MVP. On defense, Cheta Ofili, Corey Walls, Dane Norberg and Tyler Rice were recognized. Defensive MVP was Jaron Counts. John Weston and Alex Alvarado were recognized on special teams.

Owls’ quarterback Jayden Norwood rushed for a TD and Keyuntae King, who rushed for 93 yards also scored on a run. D’Adrian Hardy also scored a TD on a run. The Owls also added a field goal.

Wylie East defeats Wylie

Also in District 9-6A, the Wylie East Raiders (6-0, 4-0) got a 26-19 win over the Wylie Pirates (4-3, 3-2) Friday, Oct. 14.
