HS football playoffs begin

The District 10-6A bi-district round of the high school football playoffs ended with a win for the Sachse Mustangs and losses for the Naaman Forest Rangers and the Rowlett Eagles.

 

Mustangs advance in playoffs

 

SHS quarterback Derrick Rose led the Mustangs to a 35-25 victory over Plano East High School Friday, Nov. 16 at Garland’s Homer B. Johnson Stadium. The Mustangs were 7-0 in district play.

Rose scored three of his team’s touchdowns on short runs. Trent Dean added another TD on a 23-yard run. The defense added a touchdown when Braylen Brooks returned an interception 48 yards for a score in the fourth quarter.

 

Rose completed seven passes for 94 yards and rushed for 126 on 23 carries. Torey Washington had 14 carries for 152 yards.

 

With this bi-district win, the Mustangs move on to the area round of playoffs. They will face Waco Midway HS Friday, Nov. 23 at Mansfield’s Newsom Stadium at 7 p.m. The Mustangs are in Division I, Region II.

 

Eagles lose to Allen HS

 

The Rowlett Eagles were defeated in the bi-district round 56-21 by the Allen Eagles Friday, Nov. 16. Antonio Hull caught a 9-yard pass from QB Chase Toupal in the second quarter for the Eagles’ first score. Toupal also connected with Jerry Evans on a 6-yard pass in the third quarter for a TD. Chauncey Amos scored in the third on a 1-yard run.

 

Toupal completed 26 passes for 298 yards on the game. Evans caught 13 passes for 146 yards and Amos carried the ball 17 times for 90 yards.

 

Rangers defeated by Prosper HS

 

The Naaman Forest Rangers were defeated by Prosper HS by a final score of 41-21 Friday, Nov. 16 at Prosper ISD stadium.

 

The Rangers’ first score came on a 62-yard run by Khyree Ward in the second quarter. In the third, Durim Negron got another Rangers’ TD on a 1-yard run.

 

In the fourth quarter, Palmer Campbell connected with Jordan Flores on a 22-yard pass for a score.

 

Ward carried the ball 12 times for 124 yards and Ja’Hari Lee picked up 116 yards on 17 carries.

 

Wylie Pirates defeat McKinney HS

 

Also in District 10-6A, the Wylie Pirates got a 38-28 win over McKinney HS Friday, Nov. 16 at Wylie ISD Stadium. They will face Mesquite Horn HS Friday, Nov. 23 at Mesquite Memorial Stadium. The Pirates are in Division II, Region II.
