NFHS gets win over GHS
For the first time in seven years, the Naaman Forest Rangers (3-2) (1-0) got a win over the Garland Owls (1-4)(0-1). The score was 22-11.
Daviciea McCartney caught a 24-yard pass from quarterback Broderick Hampton for the Rangers’ first TD. Ty’Reek James and Is’aiah Coffer-Jones also had TDs for the Rangers. James scored on a 1-yard run and Coffer-Jones took a blocked kick 40 yards for a score.
Kicker Kevin Hernandez added a 28-yard field goal and a PAT.
Coffer-Jones carried the ball 14 times for 101 yards.
Joshua Chavez got a 25-yard field goal for the Owls in the first quarter. In the fourth, quarterback Joshua Brown took the ball in for a score on a 16-yard run. Donovan Benzehhafer and Felipe Zamora teamed up for a 2-point conversion.
Brown carried the ball 21 times for 104 yards.
Eagles defeat Raiders
The Rowlett Eagles (5-0)(1-0) got a 42-6 win over the North Garland Raiders (1-4)(0-1).
Jakel Davis scored first for the Eagles at the beginning of the first quarter on a 100-yard kick-off return. Quarterback Preston Weeks then scored on a 12-yard run and completed a 15-yard pass to LaDarius Dickens for a TD. At the end of the first, Kobe Morrow got a TD on a 3-yard run.
In the second quarter, Monyae Lang added to the Eagles’ score with a 10-yard TD run and Morrow caught a 9-yard pass from Garret Hermes.
Weeks threw for 96 yards and ended the night at 8-17.
Josh Aldana and Luis Reyna added 6 PATs.
The Raiders’ TD came on a 71-yard run by Dominque Pierce.
LCHS wins over SGHS
The Patriots (4-1) (1-0) defeated the Colonels (0-5) (0-1) by a final score of 48-21.
LCHS quarterback Kamron Fields connected with Tremayne Porter on an 11-yard pass. Te’Darius Herford added another TD on a 1-yard run at the end of the first quarter.
In the second, Fields scored on a 68-yard run and also connected with Shamond Greenwood on a 7-yard pass for a TD.
Trejohn Caston and Herford also scored in the third quarter on 1- and 34-yard runs. Herford also scored in the fourth quarter on a 4-yard run.
Edgar Davila was good on six PATs.
Fields ended the night at 18-21 for 218 yards and rushed for 131. Herford rushed for 115 yards.
Brodris Mathews scored first for the Colonels on a 15-yard pass from QB Caleb Dabney. Jaylin Sidney had a 21-yard TD run in the first quarter. Dabney connected with Mathews on an 18-yard pass for a score in the third quarter.
Sidney collected an impressive 219 yards on 24 carries.
Jaime Lopez added three PATs.
