The third week of district high school football ended in wins for the Sachse Mustangs, Naaman Forest Rangers, Lakeview Centennial Patriots and Rowlett Eagles.
Mustangs defeat Owls
The Sachse Mustangs (4-2, 2-1) got a 45-17 win over the Garland Owls (3-3, 1-2) Thursday, Oct. 3 at Williams Stadium. The scoring started with a 2-yard rush by Shon Coleman in the first quarter. The Mustangs added another TD on a 1-yard run by Xavier Forman and a 30-yard field goal by Addison Perez in the second. They got four more TDs in the fourth quarter, first on a 71-yard Coleman run, then a 21-yard run by Parker Wells, a 1-yard Kori Jones run and a 2-yard run by Brian Okoye.
SHS coaches recognized the offensive line for 321 rushing yards and 464 yards total offense. Tyler Wilson was recognized for excellent blocking. Offensive MVP was Coleman who had 18 carries with 243 yards rushing and two TDs.
On defense, they recognized Anthony Anyanwu for four QB pressures, an interception and two tackles and Quinton Williams for a QB pressure and six tackles. RJ (Reginald) Davis had three pass break-ups and a forced fumble. Defensive MVP was Justice Rider with one big hit, four quarterback pressures and eight tackles. Co-MVP was Dexter Jean-Pierre with an interception, a pass breakup and five tackles. Scotty Jesmer on special teams blocked a punt.
The Owls scored on a 20-yard field goal by James Cassidy in the first quarter. Jabari Ellis scored in the second quarter on a 57-yard pass from Cergio Perez. Jordan Hudson scored in the fourth quarter on a 29-yard pass reception from Perez.
Perez ended the game at 20-37 with 310 yards. Hudson caught six passes for 134 yards and Ellis caught six for 104 yards.
Patriots get win over Wylie
Thursday, Oct. 3, the Lakeview Centennial Patriots (4-2, 2-1) got a 27-20 win over the Wylie Pirates (2-4, 2-1) at Wylie ISD Stadium.
Camar Wheaton scored for the Patriots on a 97-yard kickoff return to start the game. Esteban Villarreal added 37- and 48-yard field goals, in the second. Wheaton added another TD in the third quarter on a 20-yard rush. In the fourth, Cambryn Jones scored on a 48-yard return of an on-side kick attempt by Wylie.
Wheaton had 26 carries for 170 yards. LCHS quarterback ended the night at 8-20 for 73 yards.
Rowlett HS defeats South Garland HS
The Rowlett Eagles (3-3, 3-0) got a 44-28 win over the South Garland Colonels (1-5, 0-3) Friday, Oct. 4 at HBJ Stadium.
The Eagles took an early lead on a 55-yard pass reception by Colton Yarbrough from quarterback Alex Routt. Jacob Martin then added a 38-yard field goal. Routt scored again in the first on a 51-yard run and D’Wonyae Newton took the ball in from one yard out at the end of the first quarter.
Yarborough added two more TDs on 3- and 71-yard runs in the second half and Newton added a score in the second on a 12-yard run.
Routt ended the night at 8-17 with 162 yards. Yarborough collected 99 rushing yards.
The Colonels scored halfway through the first quarter on a 14-yard run by QB Demarcus Duncan and again in the second when Giovanni Serrano hit a 40-yard field goal. Jalil Brown and Jaquinton Blalock got TDs in the fourth quarter on 13- and 5-yard runs. Ty Key scored in the fo
urth on a 30-yard Duncan pass.
Brown had 26 carries for 195 yards. Duncan ended the night at 11-16 with 95 yards.
Rangers get win over Raiders
The Naaman Forest Rangers (1-5, 1-2) got a 42-18 win over the North Garland Raiders (4-2, 1-2) Friday, Oct. 4 at Williams Stadium.
The Rangers scored three times in the first half. Tommy Dunn got a TD on a 2-yard pass from QB Austin Valdez early in the first and Aden Gonzalez caught a 6-yard pass from Valdez for a TD late in the first. In the second Bryson Huey caught a 13-yard Valdez pass for a score.
Kingsley Bennett scored for the Rangers in the third quarter on a 2-yard run and again in the fourth on a 1-yard rush. Gonzalez added another TD on a 56-yard pass reception from Valdez in the fourth quarter.
Valdez finished the game at 17-27 with 253 yards. Devean Deal caught nine passes for 148 yards.
Sabron Woods scored for the Raiders in the second quarter on a 7-yard run and again in the third on a 24-yard run. Goodness Nwawuihe scored on a 1-yard rush in the third.
Woods had 20 carries for 146 yards. QB Timothy Gauthier was 10-19 with 87 yards.
