HS football: Week 10

Week ten of the high school football season ended with victories for the Naaman Forest Rangers, Garland Owls, Wylie Pirates and Wylie East Raiders. The Friday night football games were affected by a weather delay, but all were completed.

Naaman Forest Rangers 50 – North Garland Raiders 27

The NGHS Raiders (3-6, 2-5) were defeated by the NFHS Rangers (5-4, 5-2) by a final score of 50-27 Thursday, Oct. 27. Rangers’ quarterback Deangelo Perales ended the game at 16-21 for 245 yards and three scores. Jason Flores caught one of the TD passes. Dylan Turner caught two. Turner had three catches for 95 yards. Isaiah Cunning rushed for 138 yards on 17 carries and scored three TDs. Elijah Msewe had nine carries for 95 yards. The defense also scored for the Rangers on a fumble recovery and return by Zion Arnold-Ervin. The Rangers also added a field goal in the third quarter.

The Rangers have reserved their spot in the playoffs with this win against NGHS and the Lakeview Centennial Patriots’ loss to the Wylie East Raiders Friday, Oct. 28

NGHS Raiders’ quarterback Kameron Shaw was 9-17 on the night with an impressive 245 yards and two touchdowns. Mateo scored a rushing TD for the Raiders. The Raiders also scored on a kickoff return.

Wylie East Raiders 51 – Lakeview Centennial Patriots 12

The LCHS Patriots (4-5, 3-4) were defeated by the Wylie East Raiders (9-0, 7-0) by a score of 51-12 Friday, Oct. 28. Patriots’ QB Kendrick Sanders had two touchdown throws caught by Julius Spencer and Johnathan Whittle. Spencer had four catches for 91 yards. Jack Dustin carried the ball 16 times for 116 yards for the Patriots.

The undefeated Wylie East Raiders are in the HS football playoffs.

Wylie Pirates 19 – Sachse Mustangs 17

The Wylie Pirates (6-3, 5-2) got a 19-17 win over the Sachse Mustangs (3-6, 3-4) in a close battle Friday, Oct. 28. Both Mustang TDs came on rushing plays. Pope Akanna, who carried the ball 18 times for 153 had one score and Grayson King got the other TD. The Mustangs also had a 27-yard field goal. SHS quarterback, Brenden George, was 11-17 on the night with 93 yards.

The Pirates’ win guaranteed them a spot in the playoffs.

Garland Owls 61 – South Garland Titans 22

The Garland Owls (5-4, 4-3) scored seven rushing touchdowns and two in the air in their victory over the South Garland Titans (1-8, 0-7) Friday, Oct. 28. De’Adrian Hardy carried the ball 11 times for 122 yards and three scores. Keyuntae King had 7 carries for 99 yards and three TDs. Tamalus James also scored a rushing touchdown. Nathan Mitchell and Blake Grant each caught TD passes from Caleb Loera.

The SGHS Titans’ QB Mirko Martos carried the ball 24 times for 235 yards and two scores. Pierre Choice also scored a rushing TD.
