HS football week 10: Regular season ends

Week 10 of the high school football season ends with four 10-6A teams set to make playoff appearances. The Sachse Mustangs, who won the district title; the Rowlett Eagles, who finished in second place; the Naaman Forest Rangers in third place; and the Wylie Pirates ended the regular season in fourth place.

 

The last week of regular season play ended with wins for the North Garland Raiders, Wylie Pirates, Sachse Mustangs and Lakeview Centennial Patriots.

 

Raiders defeat Owls

 

The North Garland Raiders (6-4, 3-4) defeated the Garland Owls (1-9, 1-6) by a final score of 7-3 Thursday, Nov. 8 at Williams Stadium.

Kicker James Cassidy scored a 35-yard field goal in the second quarter for the Owls. In the third, the Raiders brought the score to 7-3 on a 35-yard TD run by Trey Taylor.

 

GHS quarterback Cody Russell ended the game at 8-16 with 153 yards and Alonzo Fennel caught three Russell passes for 75 yards.

 

NGHS QB Peyton Farrington was 9-22 with 118 yards on the night. Taylor carried the ball 13 times for the Raiders and collected 144 yards.

 

Pirates get win over Colonels

 

The Wylie Pirates (5-5, 5-2) got a 49-23 win over the South Garland Colonels (2-8, 0-7) Thursday, Nov. 8 at Homer B. Johnson Stadium.

 

Jaquarion Turner scored for SGHS in the first quarter on a 51-yard run. In the second, Giovanni Serrano added a 37-yard field goal. Turner scored again in the fourth quarter on a 71-yard run and D.J. Williams added another score in the fourth on a 60-yard run.

 

Turner carried the ball 22 times for 211 yards. Williams had 13 carries for 123 yards.

 

Mustangs take district title with win over Eagles

The Sachse Mustangs (7-3, 7-0) got a decisive 48-0 win over the Rowlett Eagles (7-2, 5-2) Friday, Nov. 10 at HBJ Stadium to secure the district 10 6-A title.

 

Derrick Rose scored twice for the Mustangs on 1- and 21-yard runs. K.J. Williams also got two Mustang TDs on 8- and 13-yard rushes. Myles Nash also got a TD on a 3-yard run.

 

Rose connected with Trent Dean on a 20-yard TD pass and the defense scored for the Mustangs when Braylen Brooks got a 52-yard interception return.

 

Rose ended the game at 8-13 with 105 yards and rushed for 109 yards. Nash carried the ball 15 times for 156 yards.

 

Patriots defeat Rangers

 

The Lakeview Centennial Patriots (5-4, 3-4) defeated the Naaman Forest Rangers (4-6, 4-3) by a final score of 41-14 Friday, Nov. 9 at Williams Stadium.

Camar Wheaton scored four TDs for the Patriots on 4-, 21-, 44- and 2-yard runs. Zikamein West scored the other two LCHS touchdowns on a 10-yard run and on a 65-yard pass reception from QB Jermaine Johnson.

 

Johnson ended the game at 13-18 with 196 yards. Wheaton carried the ball 18 times for 189 yards. West collected 136 yards on eight receptions.

 

The Rangers scored on a 2-yard pass from Palmer Campbell to Tommy Dunn and a 43-yard run by Ja’Hari Lee.

 

Playoff pairings

 

Sachse Mustangs will play Plano East HS in first round of playoffs Friday, Nov. 16 at Garland’s HBJ Stadium at 7 p.m.

Rowlett Eagles will face Allen HS Friday, Nov. 16 at Allen’s Eagle Stadium at 7 p.m.

Naaman Forest Rangers will play Prosper HS Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at Prosper’s Eagle Stadium.

Wylie Pirates will face McKinney HS Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at Wylie ISD Stadium.
