HS Football: Week 10; Owls still undefeated

Week 10 of Garland ISD’s HS football season brought wins for the North Garland Raiders, Sachse Mustangs, Naaman Forest Rangers and Garland Owls. The Owls are still undefeated with one regular season game left.

Raiders get 45-21 win over Titans

North Garland Raiders’ (5-4, 2-4) quarterback Godspower Nwawuihe threw for 265 yards and three touchdowns on the night. De’Aundre Johnson caught one of the TD passes and collected 97 receiving yards. De’Corais Taylor and Isaiah DeLeon each caught TD passes. Jaden Davis and Nwawuihe scored two rushing touchdowns each. Davis carried the ball 12 times for 84 yards. The Raiders had 479 total yards for the game.

South Garland Titans’ (0-9, 0-6) quarterback Jimmy Shelly ended the night at 9-17 with 156 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Jaden Holland also threw for a TD. Tyreon Key caught two of the TD throws and also rushed for 178 yards on seven carries. Jacob Crim caught the other touchdown pass.

NFHS wins over LCHS

The Naaman Forest Rangers (5-1, 5-1) defeated the Lakeview Centennial Patriots by a score of 30-22 Thursday, Oct. 28. NFHS quarterback Tray Walton threw for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Jaden Flores and Mike Deluna caught the TD throws. Kingsley Bennet carried the ball 24 times for 215 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

The Lakeview Centennial Patriots (4-5, 1-5) collected 397 total yards on the game. QB Jonathan Hester II completed 16 passes for 300 yards and two TDs. Hester also carried the ball 15 times for 81 yards. Caylon Montgomery caught one of the TD passes and collected 194 receiving yards in 10 catches. Dermaine Arnett also caught a TD pass. Khamani Gary scored a rushing touchdown.

Mustangs defeat Wylie HS 38-7

The Sachse Mustangs (6-3, 5-1) put together 425 total offensive yards in their game against Wylie HS (3-6, 3-3) Friday, Oct. 29. QB Alex Orji ended the game at 9-20 with 106 yards and one touchdown. Kaliq Lockett caught Orji’s TD throw. Orji also ran for 125 yards on 15 carries and scored three rushing touchdowns. Dane Norberg also scored a rushing TD and carried the ball 18 times for 114 yards. Alejandro Alvarado added a 21-yard field goal for the Mustangs.

The Sachse HS coaches chose Robert Cedeno and Caden Parr as Offensive Linemen of the Week. The Offensive MVP was Dane Norberg. The Defensive MVP was Cortland Lemar with four solo tackles, three assists and a sack. Gavin Portillo, Albion Krasniqi, Ivory Chester and James Adams were also recognized on defense.

Owls remain undefeated with 41-14 win over Eagles

The Garland Owls (9-0, 6-0) defeated the Rowlett Eagles (2-7, 2-4) Friday, Oct. 29. Cergio Perez, who leads the area with 48 passing TDs, threw for 250 yards and six touchdowns. He ended the game at 18-28. Jordan Hudson caught three of the TD passes, Ellis Rogers caught two and Aaron King caught one. Rogers had five catches for 111 yards. Jayshon Powers carried the ball 17 times for 139 rushing yards.

The coaches’ picks for Offensive Player of the Week were Jayshon Powers, Ellis Rogers and Jesus Arellano. The Defensive Player of the Week was Tray Alexander and Special Teams Players of the Week were Angel Trevizo and Keyuntae King.

RHS quarterback Ernest Thomas ended the night at 13-25 for 96 yards. QB Harris Boyd was 6-12 with 67 yards and one TD. Thomas also rushed for a touchdown. Devonta Crow carried the ball 25 times for 137 yards.
