HS football: Week 9

Week 9 of the high school football season ended in wins for Garland HS, Naaman Forest HS, Sachse HS and Wylie East HS.

Garland Owls 33 – Lakeview Centennial Patriots 32

The Owls got an overtime win over the Patriots Thursday, Oct. 24. The Owls’ quarterback Carlos Mojica passed for 231 yards and two touchdowns. Caleb Ibeneme and Chan Nyeth caught the TD throws. Mojica and Ty’ques Miles also scored rushing TDs, and Mario Vargas added a field goal.

The Patriots scored first in OT but missed the PAT giving the Owls the chance they needed for a win. LCHS quarterback Kendrick Sanders connected on 17 of 32 pass attempts with two TDs. Sanders also rushed for 70 yards and two scores. Julius Spencer caught both of Sanders’ TD throws.

Naaman Forest Rangers 53 – North Garland Raiders 13

The Rangers got a big win – 53-13 – against the Raiders Friday, Oct. 25. Rangers’ QB DeAngelo Perales completed an impressive 13 of 17 pass attempts for 271 yards and five scores. Derrick Obi rushed for 125 yards on 10 carries, and Ali Vinson had three carries for 76 yards.

The Raiders’ quarterback Juju Minor had a 25-yard touchdown run and a 30-yard pass for a score.

Sachse Mustangs 55 – South Garland Titans 21

The Mustangs outscored the Titans 55-21 Friday, Oct. 25. SHS quarterback Dirk Williams connected with Kaliq Lockett on a TD pass. Wiliams also rushed for a touchdown. Brendon Haygood carried the ball 18 times for an impressive 380 yards and four scores. Keandrae Little added another rushing TD. The defense added two points on an interception return.

The SHS coaches chose Brendon Haygood as the offensive MVP. Their pick for offensive skill was Kaliq Lockett and offensive lineman was Jackson Schmidt. Vashon Brunswick and Jaden Smith were recognized on the defensive front 7. Aidan Sharp was recognized for defensive skill, and Xavion Williams received the defensive MVP honors. Trent Honeycutt on special teams was also recognized.

The Titans’ QB Edson Rincon threw for 170 yards and a touchdown. He also scored on a rushing play. Paulo Jimenez caught the TD pass. The Titans also scored on a kickoff return.

Wylie East Raiders 49 – Rowlett Eagles 0

The Eagles were unable to score against the Wylie East defense in their Friday, Oct. 25 game.
