ILTexas JROTC students to participate in 9/11 Heroes Run

Sep. 13, 2022

International Leadership of Texas (ILTexas) is proud to announce its Marine Corps JROTC students will participate in the 9/11 Heroes Run 5K in Arlington Sept. 17. The event will take place at the River Legacy Park at 9:11 am.

JROTC students from ILTexas Arlington-Grand Prairie, ILTexas Keller-Saginaw and ILTexas Garland High School campuses will participate. The students will take part in a one-mile formation run as motivation for the other runners. Students typically finish prior to the main runners and then cheer for them at the finish line.

Runners and walkers of all ages and fitness levels are invited to honor the heroes of 9/11 and those who’ve served our nation since.

Participating in the event furthers ILTexas’ motto, “Others Before Self.” The goal of Others Before Self is to provide opportunities for our students to develop leadership skills of research, organization, advocacy, communication, public speaking, teamwork, planning, execution and reflective evaluation to become conscious, thoughtful and effective leaders in their community and world.

Benefits of Marine Corps JROTC program

Since its inception in 1916, the JROTC program has been viewed as a strong program that provides youth with much-needed skills in citizenship and leadership. Additionally, numerous studies have shown that students who participate in JROTC programs have better attendance, grades, and graduation rates relative to students who were in general academic programs. Principals and school administrators also maintain positive attitudes toward JROTC because these programs:

  • Motivate students to learn
  • Foster a disciplined and constructive learning environment
  • Instill essential skills like time organization, responsibility, goal setting, and teamwork
