What do popular musical artists The Black Eyed Peas, Natasha Bedingfield and John Legend have in common with eight Garland High School students? They all recorded songs on board the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus. This state-of-the-art music and film studio on wheels caters to both professionals and up-and-comers as it travels the country to schools, festivals, concerts and more.
The bus visited GHS for two days at the end of March giving tours of the front production facility and rear recording one. Students learned about the latest in camera technology and audio mixing equipment, which is all on board thanks to companies like Apple and Sony.
Eight of Garland’s most talented students also received an extra special opportunity. GHS freshman Keaton McGill and Trevor Stewart, as well as seniors Riley Bates, Michael Isenberg, Hunter Merriman, Alexis Nguyen, Gabriel Rivera and Sarah Zender wrote, produced, performed and recorded a music video over the course of one day.
“These kids had a great time,” said Principal Atticus Weisner. “I thought it was pretty amazing that they rendered the entire video and wrote the song and music in less than a day. [They are] very talented young people.”
This piece, entitled “On My Way,” was recently released nationally on the Lennon Bus website, YouTube and Twitter. It will be used as promotion for future recording groups.
