The Garland Police Department has placed a juvenile into custody as a result of a Dec. 3 disturbance involving a weapon. The incident occurred at around 9 a.m. in the 1200 block of West Avenue D at South 13th Street. Because of the close proximity to Garland High School, a lockdown was initiated at the school out of an abundance of caution.
When Garland police officers responded to the report of a disturbance, they learned from a witness that there were two groups of males that had been involved in an altercation. That altercation had led to gunfire.
During the investigation, officers were able to identify the subjects involved in the incident. On Dec. 7, a Hispanic male juvenile suspected to be involved in the shooting was taken into custody. The juvenile is 16-years-old. He is charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
There have been no reports of injury or property damage from the incident.
Due to the suspect’s age, his name and photo will not be released.
This investigation is ongoing. GPD asks that anyone with information please contact Garland Police Department detectives at 972-485-4840.
