Landmark Museum at Heritage Park events hit the mark

Oct. 24, 2023

Landmark Museum at Heritage Crossing is knocking it out of the park with fun and entertaining events for all ages.heritage

Saturday, Oct. 7, brought a large number of visitors to the museum for a paranormal investigation demonstration. Representatives from Moon Realms Paranormal including founder Mary Ann Young and tech/promotional coordinator Susan Truett talked to the group about investigating paranormal incidents. Curtis Waller (Reaper), who recently started his own team was on-hand as well.

The paranormal team helps those who have paranormal situations in their homes or businesses and need help as well as those who need closure with loved ones.

heritageThe team’s equipment includes a night vision camera as well as a light called a dots projector that shows spirits as they move through the dots, according to Young. They also use an EMF meter that goes from green to red and reads energy. Young said that spirits can communicate by lighting up the meter. The EVP is a digital recorder that can pick up voices that people cannot hear otherwise. Other devices include a REM rod that lights up if a spirit touches it and spirit balls that spirits can light up to make contact. In addition, the team uses copper drowsing rods through which spirits can communicate by moving the rods or crossing them.

They also use a spirit box with a speaker that spirits can speak through radio frequencies running backward at different speeds. The investigators demonstrated how the equipment worked and let attendees use it as well. They also shared stories of some of their investigations and gave attendees the opportunity to share their experiences.

Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Downtown Square opening celebration, the Landmark Museum at Heritage Crossing created an exhibit “Garland’s Downtown Square of Change.” The history of the Downtown Square’s involvement and influence was shared on panels on subjects including the Squares Beginning, Movies, Public Service, Bankhead Highway, ’78 Update of Square, Events, Parking and more.

The historical information on the panels was interesting, and the photos were especially engaging.

In addition, Heritage Crossing sponsored a great scavenger hunt. Adults and children had a great time looking for the answers and completing the hunt so they could get a free T-shirt and goody bag.

heritageSaturday, Oct. 21, the first Campfire Tales was held on the Downtown Square. Speaker Holly Stevens shared entertaining tales about Garland’s history including stories about a few of our city’s more infamous characters as well as some of their crimes. After the story time, everyone was given everything needed for s’mores and used the campfire to roast the marshmallows.

Stevens worked at the Landmark Museum for a while and enjoyed her time doing research there. And now, she enjoys sharing what she learned. In addition to Campfire Tales, Stevens is the speaker for Landmark’s lecture series, “Travels in History.”
