LCHS art students win awards

of “The Art of Living Together.” This theme prompted students to explore the ways in which their art can promote harmony, peace andart mutual understanding.

JulieAnne Gawell, Lakeview Centennial High School art teacher, was proud to have three students who submitted art projects and won awards.

Kevin Escobar won first prize. Vanesa Flores received an Honorable Mention Award, and Abigail Taylor’s artwork was honored by being on display at Veritex Bank through the first week of May.

The institute encouraged students to reflect their unique experiences and perspectives in their “Art of Living Together” submission. Subtopics for the “Art of Living Together” included, but were not limited to:

  • Embracing Diversity and Cultural Harmony: Showcasing the beauty of cultures coexisting peacefully, celebrating our differences, and finding common ground.
  • Advocating for Justice and Peace: Standing up for fairness, equal opportunities, and human rights while promoting peaceful ways to resolve conflicts.
  • Uniting through Inclusion and Gender Equality: Illustrating how unity can thrive in spite of differences, emphasizing the inclusion of people from all walks of life and highlighting the empowerment of all genders.
  • Becoming Global Citizens: Encouraging students to think about their role as responsible global citizens while discovering the importance of education in building bridges of understanding through shared cultural moments.

The objectives of the art contest:

  • Cultivate Cultural Collaboration: Encourage collaboration among artists from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Inspire Positive Change: Motivate youth to engage in civic action and inspire social change.
  • Express and Reflect: Provide a platform for artistic expression and reflection on coexistence.
  • Celebrate Shared Values: Emphasize universal values and promote cultural exchange.
  • Foster Inclusivity and Dialogue: Create an inclusive environment for constructive dialogue and mutual respect among participants.
