LCHS, NGHS named two of nation’s best high schools

Jun. 2, 2018

Garland ISD is home to award-winning students, teachers and leaders. Lakeview Centennial and North Garland high schools are continuing that legacy of excellence, with both earning spots on U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 Best High Schools rankings.

The Patriots and Raiders made the revered list by meeting key principles determined by a four-step process, a feat just 5,948 out of 20,548 public high schools managed to accomplish. U.S. News then ranked the campuses that made the cut, awarding the top 500 with gold medals, 2,211 with silver and 3,237 with bronze. LCHS received a lchsbronze distinction and NGHS snagged a silver title, both joining the ranks of the best-performing schools in the nation.

Campuses received Best High School status if they featured all of the following: above state average scores on math and reading proficiency tests; high-performing disadvantaged students; a graduation rate of 80 percent or more; and elevated college-readiness performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate tests.

Just 601 Texas schools made this year’s list, with Lakeview and North taking spots 233 and 171, respectively.
