Now, that we have a new mayor, let’s all hope she can make some positive changes – especially when it comes to new development! When asked the question in the previous newsletter – “What can be done to encourage more of the population to take an interest in the city?” I don’t think hiring and paying a consulting firm was or is necessary. Just open your eyes and look around, and I’m mainly speaking of the newer North Garland side. So many other cities are growing up around us and putting in terrific new restaurants and entertainment venues.
In Garland, everyone has to head out to the same old chain restaruants that have been around forever and are still packed to the doors, even on a week night (so there is demand for food venues, etc.) Oh, but wait, we got a new Burger King and Arby’s – oh yay, just where I want to go on a Friday night. I’m just not sure why we can’t get good development?
Even at Firewheel Mall, alot of the stores are going out of business and the ones that come in are off-the-wall weird stores nobody has even heard of. Bring us a JC Penneys, or a Lush, or Ross/HomeGoods/TJ Maxx, Altar’d State, Pottery Barn, anything else! And PLEASE STOP building hotels! We may not have many restaurants along Bush but you can have your choice of many ugly hotels – what’s with that?
C’mon Garland, let’s get some better development and give the folks in the Garland area some new and better choices of places to dine and spend their money. The mall is packed 24-7 – folks want this stuff. They want good places to eat and good places to shop! I’ll keep my fingers crossed we will see change!!
