The Garland Library System will all be hosting fun, interesting activities in August. Take a look at the schedule and decide which ones you’d like to attend. There’s something for all ages!

Teens (ages 13-17) and adults are welcome to use the library’s Maker Space tools and resources. A variety of craft supplies will be available to create with. Patrons must attend the maker space classes in order to use the Maker Space during Open Lab.

SIMPLE FIBER ART WALL HANGING

Participants will create a cool fiber art piece using different colors of yarn, wooden beads, and artificial flowers. No prior experience is necessary. Limited seating available. Registration is required and begins two weeks prior to event.

TERRA COTTA DECOUPAGE

Attendees will use Mod Podge® to paste decorative napkin cutouts onto their terra cotta pot to create beautiful designs. Participants can bring their stunning creations home and plant herbs or succulents inside. Limited seating available. Registration is required and begins two weeks prior to event.

ESL CONVERSATION CLASSES

Improve your general English skills in a casual setting. Attendees may practice their conversation skills, build their vocabulary, learn about American culture, and meet a diverse group of people.

LET’S WRITE: WRITING WORKSHOP

Improve your fiction writing skills and get encouraged by other writers. Participants will be given a short prompt and time to write and share (or not share) their works. All skill levels welcome.

Seniors (Ages 55+)

SENIOR SOCIAL HOUR

Senior Social Hour is a recreational event for patrons aged 55 and older. Sponsored by the Friend of the Library, SSH features entertainers, such as musicians and storytellers, on a monthly basis. Light refreshments are served. No registration is required to attend, but seats do fill up quickly. Doors open 30 minutes prior to performance. LINE DANCING

Enjoy a beginning line dancing class, just for seniors! Instructor Ann Ellis has more than 30 years of experience and previously held a line dancing class for Senior Social Hour in September 2022.
