Library announces August activities

The Nicholson Memorial Library System has announced its activities for July.

 

Rose-Mary Rumbley speaks at Senior Social Hour – Rose-Mary Rumbley returns to Senior Social Hour at 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 16, at the Central Library, 625 Austin Street in downtown Garland. Rumbley, an author and former head of DBU’s drama department, has performed with Dallas Summer Musicals and Casa Mañana. Rumbley will present “I was a Depression Baby, but I was Never Depressed,” stories of The Great Depression. Senior Social Hour programs are free and open to anyone 55+. Donations of gently used books and media for book sale will be accepted. Registration not required. Seats fill quickly. Doors open 30 minutes before performance. NMLS accepting online payments – NMLS offers option of online payment with credit or debit card 24/7 through library website. To pay fine, visit library portal and log in to your account. Click “Fines” tab to view fines and submit payment using a Visa, MasterCard or Discover card. Online payment may be used for fines from $1-$500. Receipts will be sent to email address you provide. Charges will be marked paid in your account in real time. Charges will appear as “NMLS Accounts Receivable.” NMLS uses ProPay, a national processing network, to make sure all security regulations are met. NMLS does not collect or store personal info or card processing data. Currently, credit card payments can only be used for paying fines—not for printing or other library services. Kids make 3D agamographs – Children create artwork at Art Explorers for ages 6-12, 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Walnut Creek Branch. Attendees will make agamographs, a series of images that change at different angles. They will color two pictures, cut pictures into strips and attach strips to a paper fan. Registration required by phone or in person at Walnut Creek Branch, 3319 Edgewood Drive, beginning Saturday, July 21. Supplies provided by library. Adults create plant hangers – Adults 18+ can craft macramé plant hangers at the first crafting workshop. August workshop is at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at South Garland Branch, 4845 Broadway Boulevard. Supplies provided by library. Registration begins Saturday, Aug. 11. 972-205-3931

Catch the Trains: Model Railroad Exhibit – South Garland Branch, 4845 Broadway Boulevard, hosts free Model Train Exhibit Aug. 16-18. Exhibit co-sponsored by Spring Creek Model Railroad Club. Models represent many eras of railroading from 1880s to present. 1 – 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16; 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17; and 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18.  www.library.garlandtx.gov
