The Nicholson Memorial Library System has announced a schedule of December activities that includes something for all ages. Mark your calendars now for events you and your family will enjoy.

PLAY & LEARN

It’s playtime! Families can participate in Play & Learn, a weekly event, where families with children ages 0 to 5 can enjoy free playtime.

LOTERÍA

6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21

Central Library

Lotería is a popular holiday game played by Hispanic families. Players attempt to fill a card of sixteen images as random card images are read aloud. The library version will include several rounds and prizes for those winning each round. Registration is required to attend and begins Wednesday, Dec. 7. Please call 972-205-2517 to register.

TEEN ADVISORY BOARD

Central Library

Teens can make a difference in their community and earn volunteer hours by joining the Teen Advisory Board. Attend a meeting to apply and discuss future library events, services, and materials for teens.

TABLETOP ROLE-PLAYING GAMES

6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14

Central Library

Teens ages 12 to 17 can play tabletop role-playing games at the Central Library’s new monthly game event. The event will feature single-session tabletop role-playing games that encourage critical thinking, teamwork, and creativity. Registration is required to play and is limited to 20 participants. ART HACKS

2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17

Central Library

Tweens and teens ages 10 to 17 will learn different art hacks as well as the science or ideology behind them. They will then try out the art hacks while making their own artwork. December project–holiday-themed wooden sign. Registration is required and begins two weeks prior to each event. To register, please call 972-205-2517.

NAILED IT SNACK CHALLENGE

3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20

Central Library

Teens can participate in a holiday snack-craft challenge à la Netflix’s Nailed It. Teens will have a set amount of time to assemble and customize rice crispy trees or snowman cupcakes before the treats are viewed by judges. After judging, teens may eat their creations. Registration is required and is limited to 15 participants. Registration begins Tuesday, Dec. 6. To register, call 972-205-2517.

Adults can get their game on at a new monthly event for patrons 18 and older. Play favorite games with friends or learn a new one. The library will provide playing cards, various board games, puzzles, and video games to play.

ADULT CRAFT WORKSHOP

North Garland Branch Library

Adults can make wool-felted ornaments just in time for the holidays. Crafters will learn the process of wool felting by wrapping wool around Styrofoam™ balls and using micro-barbed needles to tighten the wool into shape. All supplies provided. HOLIDAY MAKER FEST

Multiple Locations

Garland Libraries will be hosting multiple Holiday Maker Fest events just in time for the holidays!

Adults can attend maker events at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Central Library and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the South Garland Branch Library. These events will consist of three craft stations each featuring a different holiday ornament. Registration is required to attend and is limited to 24 participants. Families can also participate at an all-ages maker event at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Walnut Creek Branch Library. This event will consist of four craft stations, with three holiday ornaments and one station for gift wrap. Registration is not required.

ESL CONVERSATION CLASSES
