Library system announces December schedule

The City of Garland Library System has some great activities planned for December. See below to decide which ones to attend.

Families

FAMILY HAUL-IDAY – 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6

Happy Haul-idays! Join a game show extravaganza where families complete challenges for prizes. Free. Limited seats. Endless fun. Registration is required and begins one week before the event.

Makerspace (Adults and Teens 13+)

INTRODUCTORY MAKER CLASSES – Taking an intro class on a machine will let you use that machine during any Open Lab. Online training courses for the 3D Printer, Cricut and Sewing Machine are coming soon!

INTRO TO 3D PRINTING – 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7

Registration is required and begins one week before event.

MAKERSPACE OPEN LAB – Adults and teens 13+ are welcome to use Curiosity Corners makerspace tools and resources. Various craft supplies will be available. Intro makerspace classes are required to use some of the tools. Check the library’s calendar for Open Lab days and times. Times for machines and tools may be reserved. Call 972-205-2533.

HOLIDAY MAKER FEST – 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3

Get into holiday spirit. Paint ornaments, create a hat, make a book clock, enjoy refreshments and music. All supplies included. Registration is required. Begins one week before the event.

CRAFTS

CROCHET CORNER IN-PERSON – 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11

Create a project from the monthly Crochet Corner display together. Basic guidance and some supplies will be available, but supplies are limited. Participants should to bring their materials if possible. Patterns require 3.5mm – 4mm hook (E/F/G) and DK or worsted weight yarn.

FAMILY HOLIDAY CRAFTERNOON – 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14

Get ready for a holiday crafternoon filled with creativity! Make a special keepsake ornament together and enjoy creating festive projects perfect for decorating your home or gifting to a loved one this holiday season. Projects are available while supplies last.

BOOK CLUBConnect with others at the monthly Book Club where we explore a new book each month and enjoy refreshments. All perspectives welcome — come share your thoughts!

6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12 – Instead of discussing our assigned book, we invite you to share and discuss the books you’ve read outside of Book Club. Join in an open conversation about your personal reading highlights!

HOLIDAY CANDLE DÉCOR WORKSHOP – 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7

Create two candle crafts for decorating or gifting. Transform ordinary wine glasses into elegant snow globe candle holders and learn the technique to make stunning frosted candle holders. Supplies are provided. Crafting experience is not necessary. If you’re looking to add a festive flair to your home or create a gift, this workshop will inspire your holiday spirit. Registration is required. Begins one week prior to the event.

Transform old, broken or mismatched jewelry into holiday ornaments! This is the perfect way to make space in your jewelry box while creating something new and festive. Bring unused pieces to craft unique decorations! Registration required. Begins one week before the event.
