Postal officials today announced that, following completion of the U.S. Postal Service’s remediation efforts and compliance with environmental regulations, the North Texas Mail Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC) will begin resumption of daily operations, effective beginning August 13.
On Tuesday, August 7, the U.S. Postal Service temporarily discontinued daily processing operations at the North Texas facility, following receipt of an improperly mailed package containing mercury. The Postal Service immediately implemented its established emergency preparedness procedures for such an event, including diverting mail to other mail processing facilities in the Metroplex area.
In the interim, postal management has worked with professional environmental contractors and regulators to evaluate, clean and certify the safety of the plant. Our remediation efforts and compliance with environmental regulations have been completed.
The letters and packages have remained safe throughout the temporary suspension and has continued to move. Our dedicated postal employees are working around the clock to minimize any service disruptions. We apologize to customers who may have experienced temporary service issues and assure them that we continue to make progress every day toward restoring normal operations. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers, suppliers, and mailing partners.
