Garland Police Department officers arrested a man after he allegedly shot a wrecker driver in the area of the East I-30 Service Road and Peninsula Way.
On Thursday, July 15, at approximately 9 a.m., GPD officers responded to a residence in the 4900 block of Freeport Drive regarding an unoccupied stolen truck out of Dallas that was parked at the location. A wrecker responded, picked up the truck and began transporting the stolen vehicle for the Dallas Police Department to investigate.
While the wrecker driver was transporting the truck to the pound, a white Mercedes SUV pulled up beside it. The driver from the Mercedes began shooting a gun at the wrecker driver and struck him in the leg. The wrecker driver eventually eluded the white Mercedes and came to a stop on the northbound service road of the George Bush Turnpike near Miller Road where he met officers from Rowlett.
Paramedics responded due to the gunshot wound and transported the victim to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. While checking the area, Garland officers observed the white Mercedes driving near the residence on Freeport. The officers contacted the driver and identified him as 40-year-old Carl Lee Robinson. A handgun was recovered from Robinson’s possession.
Based on the investigation, officers believed Robinson was responsible for the shooting and he was arrested. He was transported to the Garland Detention Center where he is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. No bond has been set.
The investigation is ongoing.
