Man attacks father with knife

Shortly after 4 a.m., Nov. 23, the Garland Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance with a weapon in the 1400 block of High Meadow Drive. Upon arrival, officers observed a man suffering from what appeared to be life-threatening injuries. Officers learned that the victim was asleep in his bed with his wife when the victim’s son, 32-year-old Ronald Kennedy Jr., entered the bedroom. Officers were told Ronald Kennedy Jr. attacked his father with the knife, stabbing him multiple times.

Officers were also told that Ronald Kennedy Jr. was suffering from a mental health crisis.

As officers approached the victim to render aid, they were advised Ronald Kennedy Jr. was in the bathroom and still armed with the knife. Officers encountered Ronald Kennedy Jr., but were able to quickly de-escalate the situation and take him into custody without further incident.

The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Ronald Bruce Kennedy Jr. is currently in the Garland Jail. He is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. No bond has been set.
