Maritza Mena is Noon Exchange Youth of the Year

Maritza Mena was awarded the District’s Youth of the Year Scholarship at the recent Texas District Exchange Club Annual Convention. As the winner of the District Youth of the Year award, her name will be submitted to the National Noon Exchange Club offices in Toledo, Ohio for consideration as the National Youth of the Year.

She was also selected as the Noon Exchange Club of Garland’s Youth of the Year Scholarship winner. Maritza was chosen for the scholarship from a field of 15 candidates from the seven Garland ISD high schools. In addition, she received both the highest essay and leadership resume scores.

She graduated from Naaman Forest High School and plans to attend Texas Woman’s University. After college, Maritza hopes to return to Garland and work as an elementary school bilingual teacher.

The members of the Noon Exchange Club of Garland are very proud of Maritza, and they wish her the best of luck in all she does.

  • Provides a variety of public awareness materials and community service projects. The projects are designed to help inform and increase awareness of child abuse and how it can be prevented.

The organization meets the first Wednesday of each month at Labellea’s Italian Grill, 4125 Broadway Blvd. in Garland – noon – 1 p.m.

On the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of each month, the club meets at Ernesto’s Mexican Restaurant, 1518 Northwest Highway in Garland – noon – 1 p.m.
