Mayor, council members on NLC committees

Garland Mayor Douglas Athas has been reappointed to the National League of Cities 2016 Community and Economic Development Committee. This committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving housing, community and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation and international competitiveness.

Garland Mayor Pro Tem and District 4 City Council Member B.J. Williams and District 3 City Council Member Stephen Stanley have been appointed to the Transportation Infrastructure & Services Committee. This committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving transportation, including planning, funding, safety and security of public transit, streets and highways, aviation, railroads and ports.

“Garland is recognized on the national level for innovation in municipal governance,” said Mayor Athas. “These appointments are an important opportunity for Garland’s elected representatives to provide leadership and to learn from other cities across the nation.”
