Jan. 23, at approximately 9:20 a.m., a tragic incident unfolded in Garland involving a collision that resulted in the loss of life.
The incident occurred when a maroon Buick LeSabre was traveling eastbound on Fieldcrest at Jupiter Road. It is believed the driver of the Buick was experiencing a medical episode when he lost control and collided with a Nissan Altima that was traveling northbound on Jupiter Road.
The Buick continued to drive through the entrance of an apartment complex directly across from Fieldcrest Dr. and crashed into an apartment building in the 1700 block of N. Jupiter Road.
A resident was inside the apartment during the crash and was struck by the Buick.
The Garland Fire Department responded promptly and transported the resident to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the Buick was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries, has since been released, and is cooperating with the investigation.
The resident who was pronounced deceased has been identified as 71-year-old Plautila Aguirre.
This is an ongoing investigation, and while no criminal charges are expected at this time, investigators are exploring all possible causes.
The driver of the Nissan that was struck by the Buick was uninjured.
