The city of Garland has partnered with Micropac Industries in a major upgrade and
expansion project. The company, headquartered and operating in Garland, will be
centralizing to a brand-new facility.
Located at 1655 State Highway 66, Micropac will have an approximately 77,000
square foot constructed facility, situated between Milano Hats (another Garland staple)
and Tuckerville Park. This move amounts to a notable 40,000 square foot increase in
space from Micropac’s current operations along Walnut Street. Additionally, the new
HQ will be built with the capacity to grow the company’s current employment base
from 142 workers to 280.
Micropac itself is a diversified, high-tech company that was established in Garland in
- It has now grown to be a publicly-traded company (MPAD) that serves the
military, space, medical and industrial sectors. The company’s electronic products can
be found in systems ranging from 25,000 feet below the earth’s surface, to space
probes on the surface of Mars.
“We are very excited to build our new headquarters in the city of Garland, Texas,”
stated Mark King, CEO of Micropac. “This newly modernized facility will serve Micropac,
as we continue to serve our local community for many decades into the future. Special
thanks to the entire community and all of our stakeholders for their strong support.”
Micropac’s project comes at a time when the city is investing in the surrounding area.
Tuckerville Park will be undergoing major improvements, including the addition of
tennis courts. Furthermore, a new animal shelter and adoption facility will be built
along State Highway 66, as part of Garland’s 2019 Bond Program (see
BuildGarland.com).
The city is looking forward to facilitating a project that will benefit its job base and
property values, as well as support a long-standing Garland manufacturer. The
industrial sector has been a vital driver of the city’s economy, with several companies,
like Micropac, having been in the city for decades. The sector has now grown to make
up an industrial core in the city, consisting of producers, suppliers, wholesalers,
distributors, and other industrial firms.
“While Garland gears its efforts toward commercial redevelopment, it also
appreciates the city’s rich industrial history,” said Ayako Schuster from the Economic
Development Department. “The city recognizes long-standing and growing companies
who consistently serve and progress the community forward. As technology advances,
markets shift, and companies like Micropac evolve, Garland is excited to be home to
‘what’s next.’”
