There is pep, and then there is PEP! Salam El-Wakil, a Senior at North Garland High School, had the surprise of her life when College Board awarded her a $40,000 college scholarship at the school’s Friday pep rally. El-Wakil was awarded a big check in front of her peers and NGHS staff during the festivities.
El-Wakil qualified for the scholarship by visiting BigFuture.org and completing a form that helps high school students plan for a successful college future. Two $40,000 scholarships are awarded each month across the country.
El-Wakil plans to attend Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. With tuition rates high at the private university, El-Wakil says the scholarship will help her fulfill her goal of attending SMU.
High school seniors across the country can visit BigFuture.org to help build a college wish list, practice for the SAT, research scholarships, apply for the FASFA, and apply to colleges in and out of Texas.
GISD congratulations Salam on her significant scholarship and wishes her the best of luck in post-secondary pursuits. She is #TheGISDEffect
