NGHS teacher is Yard Card Queen

Jun. 18, 2020

Sarah Davis, North Garland teacher and head coach of the NGHS girls’ soccer team, found a fun way to spread cheer during the recent quarantine while giving some of her former finance business students an opportunity for real-world learning.

Her idea was for a company called Yard Card Queen. She creates fun, bright-colored yard card greetings for people in the community and has enjoyed a tremendous amount of business. The Yard Card Queen helps folks celebrate birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, baby showers and more.

“I’ve had so much fun helping people put smiles on the faces of their loved ones,” Davis said. “And it has been great to have some of my former students as employees and be able to teach them how to run a business and proactively save funds. It’s a win-win situation!”

The business has also given Davis and the students an opportunity to spread much-needed positivity in difficult times. She hopes to continue to grow her business and hire more high school students in the future.

Davis, who grew up in Garland and graduated from Naaman Forest High School, has been giving back to the community for 18 years through teaching and coaching. She was especially happy to recently have the opportunity to celebrate the 2020 Naaman teacherForest HS valedictorian, Olivia Glick, with one of the largest yard displays the company has done to date.

The NFHS teacher loves planning special occasions and her goal is to help others celebrate without sacrificing time with family. The Yard Card Queen business has turned out to be a great way for her to be creative, teach young people about running a business, help others celebrate important occasions and have fun.
