Students of the Year Awards were given at the May 8 meeting of the Noon Exchange Club of Garland.
After reviewing essays and other information from 15 students, the club’s committee selected Sudra Ameen from Naaman Forest High School to receive a $2,500 scholarship and was named Student on the Year.
In addition, the organization gave an award to a student who has overcome adversities to graduate and advance to higher education. Jamarian Speed from Rowlett High was the recipient of that award and will receive $2,500 to continue his education .
In addition to these two awards, donations were made to Charlie Freeman of Northplace Church Summer Camp Scholarships and to Christian Gibson of Never Walk Alone.

Noon Exchange welcomes interested individuals who want to make a difference in the community. The program subjects and activities presented by the Noon Exchange Club include Americanism, community service, youth activities and the prevention of child abuse.
The club meets on Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m. at Ernesto’s Mexican Restaurant located at 1518 Northwest Highway. Each week the club presents knowledgeable speakers on a variety of subjects.
