This season, don’t pour your holiday grease down the drain—recycle it! Grease can clog pipes, cause sewer backups and pollute local waterways. Through Jan. 9, protect your home, city and environment by recycling your used cooking oil and grease during the 2016 North Texas Holiday Grease Roundup.
The annual Holiday Grease Roundup is an effort by local municipalities and water districts to protect sewer systems and the environment by either providing additional grease drop-off locations or highlighting existing services. The partnership includes the North Central Texas Council of Governments, the Wastewater and Treatment Education Roundtable, and several municipalities: Addison, Arlington, Bedford, Coppell, Dallas, Denton, Duncanville, Fort Worth, Garland, Lewisville, Mansfield, McKinney and Richardson, as well as the North Texas Municipal and Upper Trinity Regional Water Districts.
What happens to the oil?
The city of Garland will donate all used cooking oil and grease to the Dallas County Schools Alternative Fuels Program to be processed into biodiesel for school buses.
Collect used cooking oil and grease in a tightly sealed container and deliver it to the Cease the Grease station below, or at the Garland Drop-Off Recycling Center. Containers are available at the Cease the Grease station; however, you also can use the cooking oil’s original bottle.
