July 1964 – June 2021
Bill Stewart was born in McKinney, Texas to Shelia and Billy Stewart of Garland. He grew up in Garland and was a 1982 graduate of South Garland High School where he was a varsity baseball manager and a member of the A Cappella Choir.
He helped work in the press box during high school football games, alongside his father, doing player stats. He had various jobs after high school but he really enjoyed working for the Garland ISD for 19 years.
Bill loved to sing and be social so he made use of his bass in church choirs and Saturday night karaoke at the local sports bar Bleachers in Garland. Bill was a faithful member of the Baptist church and last attended Eastern Hills Baptist Church. Even when his mobility was compromised and it was difficult to walk or drive, he managed to go to church by scheduling local para-transit services.
Bill was a huge sports fan especially Dallas pro sports. His tv was always tuned to ESPN. He could name any player and stats for the Dallas Cowboys. One of his biggest thrills was attending the Cowboys’ last football game at Texas Stadium.
Bill had many medical issues in the last several years but that didn’t stop him from trying to go to karaoke or attend church or buy a lotto ticket. He always maintained a positive attitude and poked fun at himself.
He passed away at his home in Garland.
Bill was always the biggest man in the room but also the gentlest. He is preceded in death by his father Billy, his mother Shelia and his nephew Matthew Price. He is survived by his sister Kathy Holt and her husband Kenny, his sister Connie Thomason and her husband Duane, his brother Tommy Stewart and his wife Corina, along with numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services are not planned at this time, but Bill would love people to donate to Carter Blood Care (as he was a faithful donor) or he would love people to go out a buy a lottery ticket and win the big one for him!
