Obituary: Celeta Sue Edwards

Dec. 23, 2021

Celeta Sue Edwards, 78, of Garland, passed away Dec. 20, 2021. She was born in Pittsburg, Texas April 14, 1943. Celeta graduated from Wylie High School in 1961. She was married to Ron Edwards July 7, 1962.

She began her career as a switchboard operator for a telephone company, and then went on to be a receptionist/secretary for several other businesses before staying home and raising her children for many years while they were young. Later in life she had the pleasure of working as a travel agent and visiting many places, going on to her last “paying job” at Kraft Credit Union. Her most rewarding and joyful job was when she was given the opportunity along with her husband to spend her days with the grandkids while their parents worked.

She was a member of the Axe United Memorial Methodist Church since the late 60s up until the present time. She began working in the church’s nursery early on and continued to dedicate her life to the church in various ministries.

Her last mission, and the one she was most proud of, was establishing the Hearts and Hands Food Pantry that ran for 10 years under her direction. In addition to her passion for her church and family, Celeta enjoyed antiquing, reading and shopping.

She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Walter Taylor, her mother, Bettye Sue Taylor and her dear friend, Faye Cocke.

She is survived by her husband, Ron Edwards, children, Keith Edwards and wife Kim, Lisa Jones and her husband Russel, grandchildren, Cami and Josh Edwards, Taylor and Tori Jones, her brother Mike Taylor and wife Cathy and their daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Scott Cross.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 28, from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m., followed by a funeral at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be given to the Axe Memorial United Methodist Church in Garland to aid in the funding of food services for those in need.
