On Monday, June 5, 2023, Dexie Nell Walker Gilbert went to be with the Lord at the age of 90. Dexie was born on October 26, 1932 in Farmersville, Texas. She lived the majority of her adult life in Garland, Texas, where she worked for Resistol Hats from the age of 17 until she retired from the company at age 65. She went on to have a second career in retail, which she left in 2015.
Dexie was beloved by family and co-workers alike. She thought well, worked hard, loved deeply and gave of herself freely.
Dexie was preceded in death by husbands John Charles Walker and then William E. Gilbert, her brother, Jackie Seay, and by sisters Joan McBride, Joyce Armstrong, Wanda Haas, and Peggy Addington. She was also preceded in death by her daughter in law Kathryn Kinglsey Walker.
She is survived by her son John Lindsey Walker and wife Glenda Dianne Walker of Mineral Wells, Texas and by granddaughter by marriage Sarah Vanessa Rose Bradley and husband Aaron Reed of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a contribution in Dexie’s name to the Dementia Society of America.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 15, at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas. Funeral services will be held in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17. This will be followed by a graveside service at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas at 1 p.m.
