Obituary: Dorothy ‘Jean’ Dill Anderson

Dorothy “Jean” (Dill) Anderson died on November 2, 2019 in Georgetown, Texas. She was born in Belvidere, Nebraska on August 8, 1929 to her parents Nelle Trumble Dill and Earl (Squire) Dill.

 

Jean is survived by her loving son Chris Anderson of Lake Worth, Florida and by two sisters Carol (Dill) Lehmkuhl of Georgetown and Barbara (Dill) Beechner of Kearney, Nebraska. Preceding her in death is Jean’s eldest son, Kirk Anderson, as well as her siblings Jack Dill, Bob Dill, and   Jo (Dill) Messman.

 

As a young farm girl, Jean and her siblings milked cows and delivered milk and cream to local customers in Belvidere, Nebraska before school every day. Jean was also a voracious reader and became valedictorian of her 1947 graduating class.

 

Jean was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority at the University of Nebraska. She left college to get married to Chuck Anderson, but later completed her education (bachelor’s and master’s degrees) at North Texas State University. Jean served as an elementary school teacher in the Garland School District for 25 years, mainly teaching 5th graders. After retirement, Jean enjoyed traveling the world (Alaska, China, Mexico, Egypt, France, Australia) and even working for a summer in the Grand Canyon.

 

Jean loved being outside and enjoyed gardening, softball, and snowball fights. She enjoyed her Dill family reunions, taking adventurous trips, and weekly visits to the library. Jean was blessed with an abundance of close friends throughout her life, including her special friend George Thompson.

 

A private family service was held at The Delaney Memory Care in Georgetown, Texas, where Jean had resided for the last 18 months. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to one of the following is preferred:
