Obituary: Frances Ophelia Tawwater Short

Jun. 16, 2021

December 21, 1936 – June 15, 2021

Frances Ophelia Tawwater Short was born in Garland, Texas on December 21, 1936, to Clifford Jesse Tawwater and Lola Ethel Morrison Tawwater. She went home to the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 15, 2021.

Frances grew up in Garland, where she attended school until her freshman year of high school.  She attended Plano Senior High School for one year and the next year at McKinney High School.  But she returned home to finish out her high school years at Garland High School where she graduated in 1957. She always loved her Garland Owls and had season tickets to the football games for many years.

After high school, she attended a trade school and landed a job at Cabell’s/Oak Farms Dairy in Dallas where she worked for the next 36 years.  But she continued to make her home in Garland where she would be near her family and was a long-time member of Peace Lutheran Church.  She looked forward to family gatherings where inevitably, there would be dominos or card games (mostly poker that she mostly won).  She also loved sports, especially baseball and softball, and enjoyed watching her loved ones play and her beloved Texas Rangers.

She is survived by her only child, daughter Paula Short Gallion, and her son-in-law Billy J. Gallion of Sachse, Texas; her granddaughter, Natalie Gallion of Irving, Texas; her grandson, Caleb Gallion, also of Sachse, Texas; her sister-in-law, Ruthie Tawwater of Garland, Texas, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents, were her siblings, Mary Tawwater Everett Fuller (husbands James Everett, Henry Fuller), Ray Morrison (wife Margaret), Clifford O. Tawwater, Robert Tawwater, Charles Tawwater (wife Patsy), James “Dink” Tawwater (wife Virginia “Jeannie”), and Paul Tawwater.

Frances touched many people’s lives, making friends everywhere she went.  She will be missed by those who knew her and fondly remembered.
