Obituary: Gary Michael Reeves

Jun. 9, 2022

Gary Michael Reeves was born on October 6, 1940 to James Anderson and Ella Mae (Peden) Reeves in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in the Oak Cliff area and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1959. After graduation, Gary attended Kilgore College and one semester at West Texas State. He transferred to Texas Lutheran College in the fall of 1961 where he played football and baseball. There he met his wife, Donna (Bowers). They were married on February 3rd, 1964.

Gary began teaching and coaching in Dallas ISD and worked there until 1969 when he was offered a position at Garland High School. He faithfully served Garland ISD in multiple capacities, including Assistant Superintendent and Interim Superintendent, until his retirement in 2015.

He and Donna loved spending time on their deck overlooking Lake Tawakoni. After his family, the lake house was one of his favorite things in the world. There wasn’t a better day than when his family and friends spent the day enjoying time at the lake.

He loved the Lord, his family and his friends. He touched so many lives in so many ways and made this world a better place. On May 24th, after a brief illness, he met his Savior face to face. We grieve the loss of his presence with us but rejoice knowing that as believers, we will see him again in Heaven.

Gary is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna, daughter Dhana Mouton and husband David; son Steve Reeves and wife Shannon; grandchildren Sydney Arnold and husband Hayden, Morgan Mouton, Phoebe Duren and husband Dillon, Hannah Reeves, Noah Reeves, and two sisters, Carole Carter and Sharon Reeves.

Psalm 116:15  Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.
