John Andrew Hulla died peacefully on February 19, 2019 at Oxford Glen Memory Care in Sachse where he had been a resident for several years. John was a devoted father and grandfather, caring uncle, and loving husband to his wife of 67 years, Annabelle. Born in Chicago on September 5, 1925, John was the son of Edward and Elizabeth Hulla.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1948 with a bachelor’s degree in General Engineering and minor in Mathematics. John was a Safety Engineer and Industrial Hygienist who worked for Kemper Insurance for 21 years and for the Texas Department of Health for 14 years.
During most of that time the Hulla family lived in Garland and were members of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. John was very active in the community serving as a Boy Scout leader with Troops 563 and 750, Cub Scout leader, Treasurer of the Lions Club, President of the Toastmasters Club and member of the Garland Jaycees. For many years he was a regular at the Valley View Bridge Club.
John is survived by his sons John, Jr. and wife Kathy; Robert and wife Nancy; Raymond and wife Cindy, and grandchildren, Ryan, Jonathan, Connor and Chelsea. A memorial service and celebration of John Hulla’s life will be held at Oxford Glen in Sachse Thursday, March 21, at 1 p.m.
