Elaine was born on June 1, 1950 in Dallas, Texas to Henry and Mabel Allen of Garland.  She was in the Southern Belles drill team at South Garland High School and graduated in 1968.  She met her future husband Sam Hughes while working at Texas Instruments at the Dallas site.  They married June 6, 1970 and moved to Denton, Texas while Sam finished college at North Texas State.

Elaine and Sam moved all over Texas and the United States in their corporate career and along the way Elaine earned her Dental Assisting Certification.  She was eventually licensed in three states and taught Dental Assisting at the University of Indiana.  During this time she was also a Sunday school teacher and Superintendent in the Methodist church, a car club President, PTA officer, and an employment recruiter. Later in life she helped her husband start up and operate a dental repair equipment business that operated in Austin, San Antonio, and surrounding areas.

She is survived by her husband Sam Hughes of Georgetown; daughter Allison Gillard of Austin; son Captain Andrew Hughes of Ft. Knox, Ky.; five granddaughters – Kari Canady of San Angelo, Riane Sullivan of Hermitage, Pa., Gillian Sullivan of Austin, Everleigh Hughes of Ft. Knox, Ky., Rosie Allen of Weatherford and grandson Airman First Class Ethan Hughes presently stationed at Ellsworth AFB; and great grandson Rory Canady of San Angelo.

She is also survived by nephews Chasen Allen of Austin and Ethan Allen of Paradise, whom she raised after the death of their parents.

Elaine loved life and enjoyed dancing, her kids and grandkids, and being active in her neighborhood and with her friends, many of which she has known for forty or more years.  She also enjoyed running around in her 1966 Mustang convertible, sewing, card making, quilting, and crochet.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, February 15, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Ramsey Funeral Home, 5600 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas.
