Obituary: Sylvester (Syl) LiVert Price

Oct. 31, 2018

Sylvester “Syl” LiVert Price III was born September 15, 1958 in Dallas to the parentage of Edna Dean (Norris) Price and Sylvester LiVert Price, Jr. He was called home October 25, 2018 at his home in Garland. Sylvester had accepted Christ at an early age at People’s Baptist Church of Dallas and later attending Full Gospel Holy Temple in Garland.

Syl was a lifelong resident of the DFW area, living in Garland (or the North Dallas area) most of his life. He graduated from Garland High School in 1977 and was highly sought after by colleges for his basketball abilities. He chose to attend Bishop College in Dallas, attending from 1977-1981, where he was an All-American basketball player, dominating at center and known for his ability to dunk on anyone. After college, Sylvester was a manager at Wyatt’s Distribution Center for many years.

Syl loved spending time with his family and friends. He particularly liked sitting outside and chatting with his neighbors, most of whom he grew up with and knew for many years. He also enjoyed watching and talking sports, basketball especially, and was quite the jokester, having had a great sense of humor.

Left to cherish his memory are his son Toussiant (Phebe); grandson Caleb; his mother, Edna; four sisters,  Sandra Wallace, Ethel Broom-Lacy (Keith), Hope Price, Sabrina Price;  two brothers, Curtis Dixon and Antroin Broom, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Sylvester was preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Price, Jr. and his brother-in-law, Henry Wallace.

Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Heavenly Gate Funeral Services, 702 Gatewood Road, Garland 75043. A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Full Gospel Holy Temple, 204 Marguerita Drive, Garland 75040.
