Friday, Sept. 22, just after 5:25 a.m., officers from the Garland Police Department responded to a residence in the 4000 block of Chinaberry Drive after a subject called 9-1-1, making threatening statements that he was ready to die and would shoot at responding officers.
Officers arrived on scene and established a perimeter around the location. The subject, later identified as 34-year-old Jeremy Hines, came outside the residence armed with a handgun.
Officers attempted to create a dialog with Jeremy to de-escalate the situation. During the interaction, Jeremy pointed the weapon at officers, and one officer fired a single shot from their weapon. No person was injured from the officer’s round. Jeremy dropped his weapon, and officers safely took him into custody safely.
Jeremy Hines is charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer and is currently in the Garland Detention Center. No bond has been set.
Garland Police Department detectives, along with members of the Dallas County district attorney’s Office of Public Integrity Unit, responded to the scene to investigate according to standard procedures.
The officer will be placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy.
The investigation is ongoing.
